This maternity session turned out to be more than I ever originally imagined! I had been wanting to set up a shoot to photograph all the maternity dresses I have available for maternity clients to borrow for their photo sessions. I also wanted to have a background for them that was the same, or at least very similar, so the focus could be on how the dresses were different not the locations or the beautiful mommas wearing them. Pretty simple right? But what this turned into was the most epic location and the most fabulous collaboration, that I am still in awe it all came together and how amazing it was to photograph.
I found the location from two incredible wedding photographers Laura & Rachel. They had shot and engagement session at the Legion of Honor and I absolutely fell in love with the columns. I had done a styled maternity session in Las Vegas last year in front of the Venetian, and I had loved how the white columns photographed so much and was dying to find a location in California that had the same look. So when I saw it I knew I had to shoot there!!
Now normally I’m not a big city person. The crazy traffic, the crazy people, the crazy lack of personal space is just more than I can handle. So the thought of going up to San Francisco wasn’t exactly…well….exciting. But I knew I’d only have to drive along the edge and if I timed everything right I could avoid morning and evening traffic. And it totally worked too!! So I packed up my car with all my freshly steamed Sew Trendy dresses (by the way that took more hours to do than I want to admit) made a quick pit stop at Target for a new pair of sunnies, some water, some bags of gummy bears for quick burst of sugar for me and my model, and of course a venti Starbucks and it was time to hit the road.
I got up there early so I would have plenty of time to look around and it was so perfect. I instantly fell in love. With scheduling work, and hair and makeup, and the fact that the place closed at 5, time was tight. In fact, when Sarah got there we literally only had 15 minutes before they closed. I popped up my changing pod that I had in the back of the car and she was a champ and changed so quick! We took all the photos in the first pink dress in maybe about 10 minutes. Even though the inside quad closed you could still use a hallway of columns and the outside, which turned out amazing!
Not only did I use the Sew Trendy dresses I had in my “client closet” but I also got a FillyBoo maternity dress from Mama Bump Rentals…Btw, I’m also a brand ambassador for Mama Bump Rentals! Which means if you need to rent an amazing maternity dress for your session I’ve got an incredible discount code for you, just ask! Anyways… It had this amazing boho look to it, and knew we needed a different location. I asked Sarah if she was down to go to Baker Beach. It was literally a few minutes away, and she was more than happy to do it. It turned out perfect! And I’m so glad we made the quick trip down there.
Thank you so much to every one who helped make this incredible Styled Maternity Session happen!
