Keira seemed so tiny to me but she was almost 9lbs! I think it might be because she was a long baby and all that 9lb goodness was stretched out. I gasped with excitement when I first saw her-all that hair! Usually babies that have a lot of hair have very dark hair but hers is this beautiful light brown.
Keira’s nursery colors were lavender and I loved incorporating that into her session. That’s also something to think about when you are choosing maternity outfits. You may want to hang the maternity photos and newborn photos next to each other in the nursery and they are so beautiful when the colors go together. They don’t necessarily have to match perfectly, but if they are in the same color family it’s a little extra magical. You can see their maternity session here.
I also try to accommodate color request. If your a newborn photographer your life can easy become over run with props. The key is to get multiple colors in the “soft things” like wraps and blankets, and they get neutral colors in the hard props like bucket and crates that take up more room. Even with that said some times you may not have a lot of one color or another. I made sure to incorporate purple and lavender in Keira’s session, but since I don’t have everything in those colors I also used kind of a dusty mauve that I thought tied everything together really well and also match one of the dresses momma wore during her maternity session. I think as a whole the session colors go really beautifully together but when we were designing their gallery block the image on the mauve blanket went together so much better changed to lavender. It was a pretty easy change and I loved how it came out. I posted the comparison at the end of the blog.
