It’s that time of year again…the leaves start to turn yellow, the weather starts to cool and you start thinking about the holidays being right around the corner and boom it’s time for family photos! I like to plan family photo mini sessions mostly in October. Some people ask me why they are “so early” and there are a couple reasons.
1. The Holiday Card Time Crunch!
This is one of the biggest reason I have them early. Not only do you need time to photograph all those families, but there needs to be enough time to edit the photos, and for family to choose and order holiday cards. Those weeks add up, and if you have your mini sessions in October or even early November, families get them before Thanksgiving and have plenty of time to get those beautiful cards out!
2. Lighting and Longer Days
During the end of Summer and the beginning of Fall you have longer days. Which means you get more time to photograph more families, plus since it light outside so late, a lot of times families can have weekday sessions after work.
3. Weather
I know this one depends on where you live, but in the bay area in California, once November hits the rain starts. And it might just be here or there but the last thing you want to do is have to reschedule all your mini session clients due to weather. But if it does happen, if you started to schedule them early enough you should still have some weekends left to give you some wiggle room and make sure everyone gets there images with plenty of time.
